No loose steps or railings
Play area is clear of broken toys or sharp objects
No sharp corners or slivers on play equipment
No broken bottles, cigarettes butts
Wagons/buggies are in good repair
Pet's area away from child's play area
Sand box covered when not in use

Indoors:

Smoke detectors on all floor levels
No frayed extension cords or overloaded wall plugs
Safety caps in all unused wall plugs
Windows/doors and screens are safely secure
Balcony doors are secured and locked
Basement, laundry room not accessible
Stairways protected with gates
Emergency phone numbers posted
Emergency escape plan posted

Kitchen/Bathroom:

All sharp objects inaccessible to children
Fire extinguisher easily accessible to adults
Cleaning supplies securely stored
Pot handles turned in on the stove
Medicine stored securely and out of reach
Plastic bags, alcohol etc. stored out of reach

All rooms in the home:

Electrical appliances, clocks, vaporizers, razors, heaters, perfumes, matches etc. out of reach
Cords from curtains and blinds should be stored well above beds, couches, stairs etc.

Some of the More Common Toxic plants:

Umbrella plant, ivy, poinsettia, mistletoe, Dieffenbachia, oleander, elephants ear, cyclamen, avocado, asparagus fern. Most plants growing berries are poisonous.
